At the scene
Move only when safe and lawful, contact emergency services when needed and call the rental company’s designated number. Record location, vehicles, damage, road conditions, people involved and witnesses. Do not promise payment or arrange repairs without authorization.
- Use the required accident statement.
- Report within the contractual deadline.
- Keep screenshots of calls and messages.
After a charge
Request the damage report, photographs, repair basis, invoice and explanation of any administration or loss-of-use amount. Raise factual discrepancies with the operator first. If relying on reimbursement cover, follow that provider’s claim deadline and document list.
- A card dispute is not a substitute for reporting the claim.
- Keep originals and copies.
- Distinguish deposit retention from a final charge.
